Players not in practice
Oct 22nd
At today’s practice 4 players were missing.
1. Andrei Kostitsyn is still sitting out (not surprising)
2. Carey Price
3. Andrei Markov
4. Chris Higgins
I don’t mean to sound paranoid or anything… but I’m starting to feel a little weird about Higgins. Especially because he was announced as being in the lineup a couple of games ago… only to have his status changed again later that day… and he still hasn’t played and is missing practice.
Couple that with all those trade rumours for Gaborik… and you’ve got all kinds of people speculating that something is going down.
I guess one thing that leads to all this speculation is that we’re left in the dark to the exact nature of what Higgins injury is…. which might explain why he continues to be absent.
Trade rumours won’t die
Oct 21st
In this post by Pioneer Press, they bring up some of the same problems as some other bloggers have pointed out.
One that the cap numbers just wouldn’t make sense in the case of Higgins+Halak+1st rounder OR prospect….
And of course, all this stuff is just rumour. That’s it.
I kinda feel for Higgins, I mean what a way to start the year… have a nagging injury take you out of the first 6 games and then have rumours chase you around again.
As for Halak, he’s playing VERY well. Did a great job last night against the panthers. And since Price seems to be the #1 in Montreal, you can imagine Halak will be mentioned in every rumour.
Thing is, Minnesota already have a solid backup.
Risebrough and Gainey already made a minor move in the Shawn Belle – Corey Locke deal…. and it would make sense that Gaborik be moved in the East….
But I still think this is unlikely. Just a rumour.
Although, I’ll never rule anything out. Gainey and company have been doing a fine job so far.
Kyle Chipchura returns to Hamilton
Oct 21st
After playing his first game of the year in Montreal, Kyle Chipchura has been sent back down to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
I’d say that if there had been another game this week, he probably would have played it. I thought he played rather well last night. He seemed to be skating hard.
By Saturday night, I would expect that Higgins and Big GL should be back from their injuries.
Halak gets the call and A. Kostitsyn
Oct 19th
Jaroslav Halak gets the call in goal monday night vs the Florida Panthers.
So far I really like the tandem of Price and Halak in goal even though their young…. Price has been amazing and Halak has looked good too in the little time he’s had.
Amidst some of the present trade rumours and future trade rumours, I’m sure his name will continue to be thrown around… in any event, I think he’s gonna be a very good goaltender for years to come.
Looks like Andrei Kostitsyn’s injury is not looking too serious…. which is a huge relief. According to an RDS article, a few hours after the hit he was already feeling much much better. Carbo figures about a week off and he (Andrei) will be back in the lineup on Saturday.
Christopher Higgins will be in the lineup on Monday, his first game of the season. He’ll be on a line with Robert Lang and Tom Kostopoulos… I think that Higgins might work out on that line… Lang will most certainly find him.

While not directly related to the Habs…. the Hamilton Bulldogs are about as related a topic as can…
Matt D’Agostini scored 2 goals as did Mike Glumac and the dogs beat the Nofolk Admirals.
Checking the player stats for the dogs… there are some really pleasant surprises.
1. Matt D’Agostini who was making a case to stay in Montreal is playing well… 2 goals 3 assists.
2. Ben Maxwell – 3 goals, 1 assist +2
3. Mike Glumac – 3 goals, 1 assist +1
4. Denis is playing well
Chipchura has played 2 games…. has 1 assist and is +1…. Gregory Stewart has 1 goal 2 assists +1 and has 16 penalty minutes…
Pacioretty has yet to have the quick start offensively some thought he would… but we’re only 4 games in.
My eyes are on the farm team…. I love hockey!!!
Go Dogs!
Go Habs!
