Over the last several years one of the players who was a guy with incredible heart for his team was Steve Begin.
Always 100 MPH, always physical, always gave his %100.
We’ve seen Begin take numerous injuries…. .I will never forget when he went into the boards and hit the top of the boards mouth first…. only to come back missing a bunch of teeth and wearing a mask.
Steve Begin certainly became one of my favorite players on the roster, to me he was a real Hab.
It was frustrating for him not playing much and from my perspective, I could feel for him… and as he voice some frustration at not playing he never came out and tore apart his coach or really publicly complained he displayed true class.
Thank you for the years in Montreal Steve! I will miss not seeing you in the “bleu, blanc et rouge”.

I was very happy when Gainey went out and signed Laraque. The way that Montreal was played by the Flyers in the playoffs and the way certain teams would take liberties… this was certainly a move that would add lot’s of toughness.
After a tough start of the year with injuries holding him back and only playing 25 games so far, seems as though he’s thinking he could be traded.
Personally, I would have played him more than Carbo has. But I’m not the coach… (I wouldn’t have changed the lines quite as much either….)
I think Laraque would just been getting into the flow with his team mates after such long stretchs of being out. But he hasn’t seen consisten regular ice time. Which is too bad.
No, I don’t think you could play him a ton every night…. but I’d still have him in the lineup more then we’ve seen.
My memory isn’t short enough to forget how the Flyers played the habs last spring and how it could very well happen again. Laraque was brought in to fill those holes…. to a level of respect in how the Habs are played.
Not sure why he isn’t played more….

Over the last week, an incredible amount of stuff was written and shown on the sports networks about Kovalev and that his time was up in Montreal.
I’m always been a fan of Kovalev. And I likely always will be.
One thing always struck me… and that’s through all of this media storm in cup hungry montreal where so many people had written him off in the panic of the terrible month february has been… that probably no one knows exactly what was spoken about between Kovalev and Gainey… and quite possibly no one really knows what type of relationship they have.
Personally, I believe that Gainey and Kovalev have the highest respect for one another. Each share in being quite gifted hockey players…. some of the Russian players had called Gainey the world’s greatest hockey player years back…. and of course, Kovalev has mad skillz he can move around with the puck like no other.
I can say one thing on this subject and that’s I hope that Kovalev keeps playing with the fire he did VS the Senators…. the fans love him… and I think he holds that close to his heart. I remember last year getting his father (or trying to) to come to montreal during the playoffs because of the atmostphere.
Just read this great blog post by Robert L.. check it out.

Obviously, the centennial year isn’t shaping up to be what some people expected….
The latest saga continues.
As a Habs fan, I find this totally frustrating.
Eric Engels (Hockey Buzz)
How do you salvage this season if you’re Bob Gainey?
Trade for Vinny Lecavalier? (And win the cup??)
Would that make it all better?

I’m totally stunned….
How this the 100th anniversary of the greatest hockey franchise has been totally turned upside down.
Reports out of Montreal keep getting worse.
I am totally stunned.
The rumour mill is certainly making noise about the Kovalev situation.
A rumour has Kovalev going to Edmonton for Erik Cole..
RDS is also reporting that a desicion about Kovalev’s future or current status with the team will be decided today.
Everything seems to have changed oh so quickly.

Here’s a couple of interviews by Habs greats Lafleur and Cournoyer…
I love the Cournoyer article… and I somewhat agree with the Lafleur interview (about the Kovalev situation of late)….
Although something had to happen to spark the team not sure I like it.
I’ve always been a fan of Kovalev, with the ups and downs. I hope their discussion (Gainey and Kovalev) and Kovalev’s current “rest” will bring some fruition…. he’s got mad skillz.
