A look at possible player achievements for 2009
The pre-season is almost with us! Just gotta wait a little bit longer to see some “bleu-blanc-rouge” hockey!
I thought I’d take a look at what we could see individual players achieve in 2009. What career achievements could be made by players on the Habs roster. I haven’t listed all the possible numbers…. but listed many.
So here’s my little preview!

Thoughts on Alex Kovalev interview
As I watch this interview with Alex Kovalev a few things go through my head.
He loved Montreal
Playing in Montreal for the Canadiens has to be a tough job at times. Really…. it’s a tough place for guys to play, but I really believe his heart was in Montreal.
Ask Saku Koivu and I’m sure that he’ll tell you about the challenges… actually, there are some interviews out there where he mentions the pressure..etc. He’s not the only one to talk about it either. They pretty much all have.

Recent Articles with link to the Montreal Canadiens
I found a few articles I thought I’d share in case they fly under the radar. These aren’t necessarily from websites that I’m a daily reader of, but I happened to stumble upon them while “window shopping” on the internet
New England Sports Network:
Ex-Bruin Hal Gill Going Over to Dark Side in Joining Canadiens
This article is an interview with Hal Gill… first question “Why the hell did you sign with Montreal?”. Worth the read.

Looking at One of Hockey’s Greatest Rivalries
The article talks about some of the history in this rivalry. The author also writes a bit about how his family is split… some being loyal to the Leafs and others to the Habs.
National Post
Ex-Habs coach Demers appointed to the Senate
This comes as a total surprise…. I had heard no rumours or anything about this until it fell on my lap. Jacques Demers seems to have been appointed to the Senate.

Alexander Avtsin makes “The Hot List”
Montreal Canadiens draft pick Alexander Avtsin made the Hockey News writer Ryan Kennedy’s “The Hot List”.
Avtsin is ranked at number 6 on his list of prospects where Kennedy quotes Alexander Ovechkin where he said Avtsin was the face of Dynamo junior hockey.
From the website:
6. Alexander Avtsin, RW – Moscow Dynamo (Rus. Jr.): In a recent Puck Daddy interview, Alex Ovechkin called Avtsin the face of Dynamo in junior hockey and with 56 goals and 110 points in 76 games last season, it’s easy to see why. Avtsin will likely stay in Russia for at least one more year. Drafted 109th overall by Montreal in 2009.
Nice to see that Avtsin who dropped in the 2009 draft is still getting some notice. He certainly has some huge potential.
You can read “The Hot List” from the Hockey News here.

Montreal Canadiens win Stanley cup in 2009, on someone’s XboX
That’s right folks!
I wasn’t aware, but it seems as though the Montreal Canadiens did in fact win the Stanley cup in 2009!!
Only, it was on someone’s Xbox 360… and not in real life. They did however reach the finals VS the Sharks in this one.
Please, enjoy.

Are the 2009 Habs small?
I thought I would just write a little article mentioning this and also posting a link to an interesting article.
Are the Montreal Canadiens lineup of 2009-2010 small?
Some have called them smurfs… I saw a couple of Leaf blogs really poking fun at the idea.
Well, a blogger over at HockeyBarn.com has run some averages… something I was interested in doing and never got around to.
If we’re comparing the Canadiens vs the Maple Leafs, he’s the outcome:
Forwards: Montreal is on average 1 inch shorter but have 7 lbs on the Leafs on average
Defense: Montreal averages 1 inch taller and 4 lbs bigger.
The Montreal Canadiens have 1 small line if Gomez, Gionta and Cammalleri are teamed up. That’s it really.
So I guess for all the fun some are poking @ the Canadiens being so small… yeah, we’ve got a possible small line. But we’re still bigger then you on average.
You can find the entire article I’ve referred to here:
