Exactly... Koivu pretty much had a fight on his hands throughout his entire career.

From the injuries, cancer and all the media crap.. he had to fight through it all.

And with class.

Also, despite the injuries etc... he did put up some great numbers in 13 years that weren't all very easy.

I am hopeful that once I finally make it Montreal to see a game that #11 is hanging in the rafters.

Although I am hopeful that will happen soon, so perhaps it won't be there yet.

His jersey belongs up there. For so many reasons, but when I think about why I am a Habs fan, I just think about the way he carries himself and that's just the kind of team that I want to support.

I mean I remember watching when he was drafted and the commentators saying that they weren't sure if he would even play in the NHL because he was so small...

I'm sure I will get a little bit emotional the first time I see him as a Duck, although now that he is on the West Coast I will have many more chances to see him play live! (looking for the positives....)

Exactly (Topham).

Part of my motivation for this post was that I found many people saying he "under acheived" and shouldn't be considered.

I don't buy that.

When Koivu retires from pro hockey... if he doesn't seriously get a look for retirement I think I'll chew up one of my habs hats.

Won't eat it.... won't go that far.

not at the momment. But at some point yes. His jersey desrvese to be retired but I dont think it should be done before he retires.

I definitely believe that #11 should be retired. Koivu was a presence on an off the ice.
