Halak getting respect
We’re about 30 minutes away from game time. Montreal faces the Pittsburgh Penguins this evening and once again Yaroslav Halak will be in net.
It’s been a long winding road for Halak as the last couple of years it seemed like no matter what he would do, steal games, stop 50 shots…. he would soon sit. He didn’t see too many games in a row as most times the reigns were always given to Price.
This season, it seems as though Martin might be playing whoever is sharp.
I’m hoping that this is a real opportunity for both young goalies… they’ll both get the games, and they gotta perform.
Is this creating a real competition? Will this essentially push both?
Only time will tell.
Enjoy the game!

This situation should and will[hopefully]push Price. He’s young and has to use this to build character and develope into a better allround goaltender.
p.s. they should have done this last year
I’m really hoping that it creates some healthy competition between the 2.
I heard some people mention both goalies pushing each other last year but I don’t really think it could’ve really happened.
Halak would never play enough to give Price the sense that he’s gotta play well to keep his spot. Hopeful that this time it works out that way….
And as I write this, going into the 3rd period….. Price is in goal.
Thanks for the comments Marcel!
With 2 young, inexperienced goalies…a little competition is the best thing for them, but they both have to get equal playing time for it to work. I honestly think that if given the chance to play, Halak will be the better goalie out of the two. Price doesn’t seem to have the ability to make the big saves when the team needs it. He always seems to let in a weak goal and takes the wind out of the sails of the rest of the team and thats not good for a #1 goalie. Real #1 goalies are able to make those big saves for his teammates and turn a game around.
I’m not exactly sure who would be the best… but I think they both have great talents.
One thing that frustrates me is a game like last night. So many bouncing pucks in front of Halak at times… Crosby left open.
Whoever is in goal is just left out to dry at times. It’s unfortunate.Although last night was an example of what one of the elite teams can do.
I’m hopeful for both goaltenders. The Penguins just seemed to turn it up and take 29 shots in the last 2 periods… pretty hard for either to have success in that scenario.
