Happy 100th to the Montreal Canadiens!
Dec 4th
Today marks the 100 year anniversary of the Montreal Canadiens. There are many, many, many, many things that could be written about the 100 years that have gone by. Great hockey legends and hockey moments…. dynasties the likes will never been seen again.
The Montreal Canadiens certainly have an incredibly rich tradition and huge fan base…
The Habs have seen many Stanley cups, many awards, many players come and go… the Habs have seen great celebratory parades and have also seen some riots… who could forget the passion and anger shown at the suspension of the Rocket on March 18th 1955….
The list of great players who’ve suited up and played in Montreal is about a mile long. The Rocket, Belliveau, Morenz, Robinson, Harvey…. there is a treasure of information over at the http://ourhistory.canadiens.com/home website.
I remember being a young kid in the early 80s and watching the Habs play their local rival Québec Nordiques…. the passion, the brawls… memories that will be with me forever. I remember going to my grand fathers place and watching several games there on his small tv.
Back in 1993 I remember the Canadiens having to face those same Nordiques who had a host of great young players… the series started badly, but the Habs got hot and rode it for the entire playoffs… winning their 24th cup. The stars just seemed to align…
There are many fond memories of watching the 80s teams…. Mats Naslund was one of my favorites as well as Gainey… cup in ’86 and the finals in ’89.
I want to keep this short… so… Happy Birthday my beloved Montreal Canadiens!!
Montreal Canadiens vs Buffalo Sabres – 2009/2010 season 28th game highlights and comments
Dec 4th
Here are the game highlights from the Montreal Canadiens vs the Buffalo Sabres played on December 3rd 2009.
This was a painful game for me to watch. Buffalo won the game 6-2.
I’m not sure who to process this team… I mean how to evaluate them. I’m besides myself in the fact that they come out the last 2 weeks and play some strong games against Washington (twice), Detroit and Columbus… and then they just seem to vanish against Toronto. Last night I thought they would come out a bit fired up after their loss to Toronto but it just didn’t happen.
The last 2 games Montreal allowed 7 unanswered goals. That is just not acceptable.
Allowing 23 shots from Washington is quite a feat… giving up 37 to Buffalo is a bit much. Although, I will say that Buffalo is one of those teams that are always well coached (Mr Ruff is a longstanding coach… and with good reason) and they’re showing again this year that they are a team to be reckoned with in the East.
Let’s just put the last 2 games behind us….. please.
Habs trade Kyle Chipchura to Ducks
Dec 2nd
It was reported earlier that the Montreal Canadiens traded Kyle Chipchura to the Anaheim Ducks for a 4th round draft pick.
Chipchura was a first round draft pick who has many leadership skills and although he showed them very well in Hamilton in his time with the Bulldogs he was never able to cement his spot in Montreal.
Chipchura is a guy I had hopes for and this year at times he showed his smarts and grit dropping the gloves. But he also continued to struggle and in the end didn’t quite fit into the team’s plans.
So the Habs grab a 4th round draft pick in 2011 (edit: I thought it was 2010 but it was in fact a pick in 2011) and Kyle gets a shot at helping a new team in the Ducks.
I hope that Chipchura gets a good shot at getting his spot in Anaheim. He went up and down to the minors and in the bigs, played his game and never complained. He’s got hockey smarts…. best of luck to you Kyle!

This certainly wasn’t a great show by the Habs. But I guess we’ll have to deal with it.
