2012 Pre-Draft thoughts

So as I sit here… taking a break from doing my dishes… I’m quite hopeful that Mr Bergevin and the Habs management team will make some choices that will come to pay off dearly.

In about 45 minutes it gets underway and soon after we will see the latest prospect to join the team with the richest history in the NHL. (Yes that’s right and I’m not going to debate it!)

If I was Bergevin I would seriously entertain all options. There are a few players who, I believe, can bring something soon at the # 3 pick. I would also entertain getting some (now) type talent to help the team in the short term.

I guess we’ll see. As I write this, Philly and Columbus have already traded a gaggle of picks for Bobrovski. Let’s not get carried away Mr Bergevin!

I would love to see a forward… that big center. Or, a trade for that big center. After the first few picks, I’m generally of the belief that’s it a shot in the dark to a certain degree. Some players who are pegged as future solid NHLers never make it… others undrafted go on to play many years in the bigs.

Let’s pick someone who’s got talent and who’s got heart. And who’ll wear the uniform with pride.

Meet Nathan Beaulieu, 17th draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens

I was quite pleased to see the Montreal Canadiens pick Nathan Beaulieu last night. The Habs have a few solid young defensemen. Think Tinordi, think P.K. Subban who’s making his mark in Montreal…

Add to that Josh Gorges and the possibility of having Yemelin (or Emelin) for a future defensive lineup. Maybe things will look good! Assumptions always though, with player moves, injuries, trades….

But certainly some interesting thoughts.

Beaulieu’s a great skater, he’s got puck moving skill and he’s got a 6’3 frame.
