Some Habs “Lockout Filler”

Hard to believe… well, scratch that. It’s not.

Not hard to believe we’re amidst another NHL lockout. Have been reading a bit here and there and these words jumped out at me… ” Two-time Stanley Cup winner Scott Gomez signed a professional tryout agreement (PTO)”…

I ate Lucky Charms the night Gomez scored…

Wow, that’s from the Alaska Aces website. A tryout contract? Wow.

Enjoyed reading this article by the Canadian Press on TSN about the Hamilton Bulldogs and Habs prospects. The 6 guys mentioned, Nathan Beaulieu, Jarred Tinordi, Morgan Ellis and forwards Michael Bournival, Brendan Gallagher and Patrick Holland are all players I have a great interest in following this year.

So many young guys turning pro. I had decided to spend my NHL Game Center live budget on the NBA’s live streaming package… but I think I’m going to also (probably get them both) get the “Team Pass” for the Bulldogs. If anyone’s intereted, you can find the AHL’s online streaming packages here!

I am quite tempted in getting the full featured AHL package though…. because there are a few teams I’d like to follow…. like the OKC Baron‘s to name another (other than the Bulldogs).

I’m also quite interested in watching the other prospects that aren’t with the Bulldogs camp this year… like Alex Galchenyuk (of course), who tonight scored his first goal in a losing effort vs Sault Ste. Marie.

So in 3 games, Alex has 1 goal and 1 assist. And his Sarnia Sting has yet to win.

Let’s hope they turn it around!

Off season rumblings have begun

Lot’s of talk already just days after the Canadiens playoff run ended.

I know that for some of you the interest in your favorite NHL team doesn’t end. For me, it certainly does not.

While the Habs were on their playoff run I tried to focus on their games. Current line ups, their performance etc…. while trying to leave the impending UFAs, RFAs, salary cap and that question that will keep lingering of which goaltender stays in Montreal??? Or IF they can somehow keep both.

Now that it’s the off-season (ok, not for you Hawks/Flyers fans) I’m starting to think about this stuff a little bit and am reading what other bloggers have to say as well as the media.

Certainly some interesting articles out there. Here are just a few.

There’s lot’s and lot’s to think about, dream about…. maybe even worry about. But hey, I’ll tell you straight up. I won’t worry about it. I’m a die hard fan, but I try to keep this at the “entertainment level”. NHL teams don’t pay my salary. It’s not a job. I love hockey, I love the Habs, I love NHL hockey….. it’s something fun.

However, I will admit that I’m passionate about the Habs.

So just as the playoff run has just ended.. my head is filling with this other stuff….

Thought I would highlight a few articles that I read over the last week.

Price/Halak – The Stats – October 2009

This is a great article on the goaltender statistics and it cuts through to the bare facts.

Chris does a great analysis of the shots both Halak and Price have faced will visual graphs displaying where the shots were taken from as well as the save percentage per area.

Really worth the read!
