There’s lot’s of positive energy and excitement going on for the upcoming season… not just in Montreal.

Sizing up Montreal’s Gionta
by National Post

A great article on Brian Gionta. Seems as though Jacques Martin sees some leadership in Gionta… possible Captain or assistant?

Gionta being the smallest player at camp has faced that his entire career. Even though he’s a small physical frame in the NHL, Gionta has never shied away from driving to the net and having a guy like Gionta playing with Plekanec at times could be very beneficial for Tomas. Some of that might rub off on him.

Can’t wait to see Brian Gionta play this year.

Ex-Canadiens coming to town
by Portland Press Herald

Imagine watching Lafleur, Robinson, Guy Lapointe, Steve Shutt and Yvon Lambert playing again!! For the Habs!

Well, the Montreal Canadiens alumni are playing a charity game for habitat for humanity. Always entertaining the legends are always great to see.

I found a few articles I thought I’d share in case they fly under the radar. These aren’t necessarily from websites that I’m a daily reader of, but I happened to stumble upon them while “window shopping” on the internet

New England Sports Network:
Ex-Bruin Hal Gill Going Over to Dark Side in Joining Canadiens

This article is an interview with Hal Gill… first question “Why the hell did you sign with Montreal?”. Worth the read.

List of Sports
Looking at One of Hockey’s Greatest Rivalries

The article talks about some of the history in this rivalry. The author also writes a bit about how his family is split… some being loyal to the Leafs and others to the Habs.

National Post
Ex-Habs coach Demers appointed to the Senate

This comes as a total surprise…. I had heard no rumours or anything about this until it fell on my lap. Jacques Demers seems to have been appointed to the Senate.

I just watched the video of The Hockey News interview with Mike Cammalleri. The interview is 6 minutes and 57 seconds long.

When I first loaded the page up, I thought that Cammalleri looked good in the vintage Montreal Canadiens uniform.

I thought Cammalleri was a good move for sure…. but the more I watch youtube clips, saw him on OTR on TSN…. and with this interview I gotta say I like the Mike Cammalleri signing more and more.

Cammalleri seems to be well spoken and from what I heard he said some pretty interesting things about the new lineup. When asked about the identity of the new Montreal Canadiens lineup he, as well as Ken Campbell, weren’t too shure on what the identity was but as their conversation went Campbell talked about Bob Gainey acquiring guys who are hard workers and who have experience winning… and some playing together.

Then Cammalleri said they may have touched on what the identity of the team is actually going to be. I thought something similar as I learned a little more about these guys. They’re starting to look more like a team who shows up every night and plays hard.

Not to take anything away from last year’s lineup (and some prior years) but that wasn’t quite their reputation. Alex Kovalev certainly hasn’t been known as a player who would bring it every night and the team in general last year had such a major meltdown that they would just stop competing.

I think Cammalleri is just the kind of guy who we should have in Montreal. He wants to compete… he wants to win… he knows how hard the city can be…. he really seems to appreciate and respect the hockey tradition…. and he understands the pressure of playing amidst a rabid hockey fan base and the “occasional” love-hate relationships that some fans have with their players.

Here’s the link to the video:
One-on-One with Habs sniper Mike Cammalleri
