Price in goal and the deadline is on
Mar 4th
Been up for a while, looking at work…. 6:41 am here, 5:41 am EST.
Halak doesn’t make the trip to Buffalo because he’s sick… so Carey Price is in goal tonight.
I’ll bet that he (Price) will try and impress tonight… of course he has too.
One thing that I’ve gotten tired of is how Price has become, for some, a bum… he was the best and after a tough spell some people have written him off…
Price is in his sophmore year… he’s a young guy… and this year he was given responsibility as a No1 goaltender in the NHL. So he’s struggled a bit in his sophmore year… gosh, he’s not the first NHLer to do so…
Like it or not, there is a learning process and for a young guy given the No1 job in a market like Montreal you can bet it’s been a learning curve unlike any he’s had in his previous goaltending duties.
If some of you out there would have been GM… Price along with many current roster spot holders would have been gone…. some for nothing and some in trade scenarios based in pure fiction.
Today, I’m hopeful Gainey will attempt to make a move to improve the team. But one thing that I appreciate about Gainey is that he will certainly measure what he’s trading VS what he’s acquiring making sure the Habs aren’t weakend long term and that they are strengthened short term.
He won’t sell the farm…. and of course a trade can be measured in different ways… short term success vs long term success…etc…
Anyway…. Game on!
Habs over Wings – Thoughts
Nov 27th
Well, I was pleasantly surprised last night. Not that I didn’t think the habs could win or could match up to the wings…. but I was surprised that it went so well. In this string of games where it seems so much went wrong it was surprising to see so much go right against one of the league’s powerhouses..
Carey Price, in my opinion, has been very solid for quite a stretch. Even through the tough losses, while the team in front of him wasn’t playing the best, he’s given them a chance to get in those games.
Last night there was a nice pace to the game… Kovalev showed some jump and some desire to make some stuff happen…. at times, he is really “magical” with the puck.
The 4th line showed up… as they have in pretty much every game this year. Lapierre played very well.
I thought the stint that Tom Kostopoulos played with Koivu and Higgins went well… I just love the way Tom K plays hard and goes to the net…. man, if he had a scoring touch…. look out.
O’Byrne played a good game other then a mistake that resulted in a goal… but you know, it’s this guy’s first full season and his first stint playing major minutes… the guy is learning. And I liked last night’s effort.
There are a few minor injuries pilling up…. Tanguay was hit hard (clean hit) and suffered a bit of a neck injury… which I believe has him day to day… Latendress is still nursing a minor injury… George Laraque is also nursing a minor injury…. Komisarek is still out for a few weeks… Gorges may be day to day after seeming to hurt himself a couple of times last night….
I’m hoping the injury bug doesn’t hit much harder. If Gorges happens to miss some games… I’m wondering if that couldn’t bring a Shawn Belle or Yannick Weber up…. Belle has been playing some solid D in Hamilton. +15 when I checked last….
I guess we’ll see who is in and who is out for Friday’s game.
Players not in practice
Oct 22nd
At today’s practice 4 players were missing.
1. Andrei Kostitsyn is still sitting out (not surprising)
2. Carey Price
3. Andrei Markov
4. Chris Higgins
I don’t mean to sound paranoid or anything… but I’m starting to feel a little weird about Higgins. Especially because he was announced as being in the lineup a couple of games ago… only to have his status changed again later that day… and he still hasn’t played and is missing practice.
Couple that with all those trade rumours for Gaborik… and you’ve got all kinds of people speculating that something is going down.
I guess one thing that leads to all this speculation is that we’re left in the dark to the exact nature of what Higgins injury is…. which might explain why he continues to be absent.
Habs took Philly
Oct 14th
I think that last night’s game was an important one.
It was important in the psyche of the habs… especially say a guy like Price, and maybe Sergei Kostitsyn, who played with a bit of jam last year but in that playoff series Philly was just so physical I think it really changed the game.
As I watched last night, I saw some good and bad. Of course.
In the second period when Montreal scored the first goal, I thought the flood gates just might open but then the Flyers scored 2 quick ones.
After those 2 quick goals I had a slight flashback of that playoff series last spring. I saw a couple of what could have been mistakes and boom… there it was. After that, I found that the Flyers did have quite a bit of momentum.
Third period brought a nice change… and the goals came out.
So far, I think Price has played very well. He’s already made 2 “save of the year” type saves in his first 2 games of the season.
After a slow pre-season by Lang and Kostitsyn seems as though the offense is coming to them. Lang has shown some nice passing skill… Kostitsyn has shown that he has GREAT vision out there and the ability to make excellent passes.
Kovalev made a few moves that were just crazy. He’s so good. One of the RDS commentators pointed out last night that unlike some younger guys who come at you at 100 MPH and deke you…. Kovalev comes in much slower… and still dekes you. Sometimes, when he is “on”, he makes 1,2,3,4 (sometimes 5) guys look silly.
Kovalev made some nice passes last night. I love the fact that in Montreal, he seems to have found a home. He seems to love the city, love the fans and love wearing the blue, blanc et rouge.
2 guys who should be back very soon would have been perfect in the lineup last night vs Philly…. Bouillon and Laraque.
It’s early in the year.
But it’s awesome to have it back!!
