No offers for Dominic Moore and Glen Metropolit

PHILADELPHIA - MAY 16: Glen Metropolit #15 of the Montreal Canadiens handles the puck against the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals during the 2010 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at Wachovia Center on May 16, 2010 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It’s official. Dominic Moore and Glen Metropolit will not be offered new contracts.

I can say that I was a fan of Metropolit from the time he came to Montreal. And really, who could forget that first game?

He’s put on waivers by his team at the time, the Philadelphia Flyers, only to be picked up by Bob Gainey’s (at the time) Montreal Canadiens. What made this unforgettable is that Metro had to face his former team that day.

I remember watching that game and how it was mentioned…. later on I remember hearing about the adversity he faced in his youth and also beating the odds to play in the NHL.

Metropolit done for the year

Dallas Stars v Montreal Canadiens

Yet another injury it seems for the Habs.

Glen Metropolit who had a pretty strong season with the Canadiens with 16 goals (career high) and 13 assists will likely be done for the year.

According to this RDS article, it seems that he’ll be meeting with doctors to access an injury to his left shoulder.

It seems to me that with the opportunities that were given to Metropolit, power play time… etc. He sure made the best of it. Though I don’t want this to sound as though Metro was “the best” or the “most skilled” player on the ice, he certainly gave his all in my opinion. And at times I was really surprised by his passing skills.

I’ll miss you Glen. When the Habs first traded for you, all I knew is that you had played for Philly and the season before for the rival Bruins. Thanks for the great season!

A look at possible player achievements for 2009

The pre-season is almost with us! Just gotta wait a little bit longer to see some “bleu-blanc-rouge” hockey!

I thought I’d take a look at what we could see individual players achieve in 2009. What career achievements could be made by players on the Habs roster. I haven’t listed all the possible numbers…. but listed many.

So here’s my little preview!

Trade deadline looms

We’re almost at the trade deadline.

I’m listening to Team990 in Montreal… I always enjoy Tony and PJ.
I love this time of the year… playoffs are just around the corner… the play in most games have intensified…. GMs are starting to sweat….
What moves would you make?
I think that Gainey has made some good moves in getting Schneider and Metropolit.
When Begin was traded to Dallas, it opened the door for him to grad Metropolit off waivers.
Schneider is adding some great experience and calm in the back on D while I like how Metropolit could affect the team…. he’s good on the faceoff… always works hard… and those hard working guys are valuable in the playoffs.
If I was GM, I would either be looking to grab that big center… but much easier said then done… Olli Jokinen… I’d grab him.  Who would go?? That’s the question.
But with all the young guys starting to knock on the door… the time is approaching. The team will certainly have a different look in a year or 2.
I would look for another D guy. D has been shaky of late.
