Jay Leach may play and thoughts on D
Nov 8th
The newest member of the Montreal Canadiens might see the light of day in the next game on Tuesday against the Calgary Flames.
At first when I saw that the Habs had claimed Jay Leach off waivers I figured he would probably be in Hamilton. But it’s quite possible or maybe probable that he’ll play on Tuesday night.
Leach is a big stay at home defenseman at 6’4 220 lbs and he does play a physical game.
With injuries to half of the defensive core Bob Gainey has been trying to bolster the D with a variety of moves to date.
In last night’s game Ryan Malone scored a goal by being able to stand around in front of the crease and not just get one whack at the puck but got his own rebound off of Carey Price’s stop to put his second shot in the net. This has been a big problem for the Canadiens and not just this season.
If Leach gets some ice time this is one of the tasks he’ll likely be given. Clear the front of the net or at least make it much harder for the opposing teams to park their players there.

Mathieu Carle gets called up
Nov 2nd
RDS reports that Mathieu Carle has been called up by the Montreal Canadiens.
Hal Gill was hit in the foot by a puck in practice and had to leave practice early.
This is a great opportunity for Mathieu Carle who had his 2 first training camps cut short because of injury. This season he seemed to start a bit slow (in camp)… I thought he looked nervous at times… but he got better and better.
I believe Jacques Martin wanted to get a good look at him and gave him a good shot in camp.
Carle will be in the lineup on Tuesday night in the game against the Atlanta Thrashers.
Season just about on and some last cuts made
Sep 29th
As I write this there is 2 more sleeps before the new 2009-2010 season opens with the Montreal Canadiens facing the Toronto Maple Leafs. I’ve been waiting for this long enough to qualify me as a slightly obsessed fan.
Jacques Martin has made some more cuts and now we have the team or roster together that will start the year.
The cuts that were made today were Ben Maxwell, Tom Pyatt, Yannick Weber, Mathieu Carle and Curtis Sanford.

Rookie camp 2009 – Martin thinks young players could play key role
Sep 8th
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, just because I mean it. I’m excited for this upcoming season and it’s great to see the reports coming out of the rookie camps. It satisfies part of my desire to see some Habs hockey.
Watching a report on RDS, it’s interesting to listen to Jacques Martin and the RDS analysts. Martin really seems to leave the door open for any number of young players…. from Chipchura, D’Agostini, Pacioretty.. to Maxwell, Latendress, the Kostitsyns, Lapierre… he goes on to say that any number of these young players could have an important role in the Montreal Canadiens lineup this year.

Andreas Engqvist signs with Montreal Canadiens
Jul 13th
Heard the news about this signing.
Andreas Engqvist is a 6’3 center…. he’s 21 years old and sign a 2 way deal for 3 years.
I’ve never seen this guy play, unless he was playing some of the world junior games when I was watching or something…. but as far as I’ve read, this guy was undrafted. At least over on hockeydb.com , there is no listing of any draft information.

And his page on Eliteprospects.com:

Timmins must have seen something that he really liked in him (Gainey too) to offer the 3 year deal.
He’s definately a type of player that they need… he’s got pretty good size, and the scouting report is that he’s got good vision and passes well.
Will he play in Montreal this year? Probably not. But this move does accomplish something… helps add pieces in Hamilton…. Montreal has a few prospects on defense that could possibly see some ice this year… Mathieu Carle, Yannick Weber, P.K. Subban (can’t wait to see you in Montreal PK!)… Engqvist adds a big young center in development. Possibly taking a future roster spot.
And as I saw posted in a couple of spots… here’s a video of Andreas Engqvist.
